We have integrated the supply chain from the top down. MUZO now has control over the entire supply chain from extraction through cutting, all the way down to the distribution of our emerald collections.
SCULPTING THE STONE - The highly-skilled local gem-cutters in our Bogotá workshops have an eye for each individual emerald. They pore over the crystal to map its characteristics and plot where the stone will be carved, noting the distribution of color and the presence of inclusions. These gem-cutters are virtuosos of the classic cuts. Our Colombian cutting facility has partnered with French workshops in its continuing diligence to expand its cutting style. This pool of expertise is further enhanced by exceptional collaborations with workshops in New York and Hong Kong.
PERPETUATING SAVOIR FAIRE - Our continuing education program for MUZO gemcutters is taught by one of France's leading specialists, a recipient of the 'Meilleur Ouvrier de France' award who regularly visits the Bogotá workshops.We are working towards signing training agreements with BJOP jewelry school in Paris and the SENA training agency in Bogotá, in an effort to continue the legacy of Colombia’s cutting tradition. With this tiered educational program, we hope to create a greater pool of skilled emerald cutters for the future, while providing valuable employment opportunities.
